How to Join the Battle for Social Welfare
• Make voter registration a basic service offered at your agency. Section
1b of the National Voter Registration Act encourages all non-governmental
entities to register clients. Call the NYC Board of Elections for voter registration
forms: 212-487-5300.
• Join a campaign. To find a campaign’s phone number, go on the
internet and write in www.candidate’sname.com. When you volunteer, tell
them you’re a social worker and a member of NASW.
• Use the internet to inform voters. Using networks such as your email
address book, professional colleagues countrywide, organizations you belong
to and friends and family, provide information about the current administration’s
social welfare and civil liberties policies.
For more information about the issues, go to NASW’s website, www.naswnyc.org.
