POLITICAL ACTION FOR CANDIDATE ELECTION (PACE) NASW-NYC PACE is the independent political action body of the Chapter. PACE is funded by a small voluntary portion of annual membership dues. NASW-NYC PACE is the NYC Chapter’s political action committee and its political partner. PACE identifies qualified candidates who run for local and statewide offices and garners support for them among the NYC Chapter membership. PACE endorses candidates who espouse social work values and who work to promote goals such as loan forgiveness and licensing. Through funding from National PACE and money raised locally, NYC PACE is able to make donations to candidates. Equally important, NYC PACE mobilizes social workers to participate in political campaigns through the use of social work skills including planning, organizing, motivating, and working within systems. Political experience and knowledge, while helpful, is not required for participation. The Committee’s mission includes educating and involving social workers in the political process. PACE meets at the Chapter office from 6:15 to 8:15 pm on the second Wednesday of each month; please call to confirm meeting dates. Committee co-chairs are Joan Serrano Laufer, and Mary T. Harrington.
