NYC-PACE votes to back Messinger for Mayor:
Early endorsement aids grassroots effort

(May 1996)

NYC-Pace, the Chapter's political arm has, voted to endorse Manhattan Borough President and social worker Ruth Messinger in her quest for the Democratic nomination in next year's Mayoral primary, and if she wins the primary, will support her in the general election. PACE, backed by the Chapter's Board of Directors, decided to support Ms. Messinger at this early date becuase they felt that their endorsement and contribution would be more useful now, rather than later.

"The more organizations in her camp, the more credible her campaign becomes," noted one PACE member, adding that the campaign at this point is a "grassroots" organizing event, with numerous people making small donations. People who are interested in working on the campaign or making monetary contributions to the effort are urged to call Friends of Ruth Messinger '97 at 212-431-4188.
