Many social work administrators are promoted to their positions because they excel at clinical work. During their formal graduate education, however, these social workers may have had little exposure to theories of, and direct practice in, effective administration, leadership and management. For the social work administrator, knowledge of, and facility with business models, theories of leadership, strategic planning and coaching for success, are as important as the eco-systems perspective. Clinicians promoted to administrative or supervisory positions who attend this workshop will gain effective management tools to improve their leadership skills, learn what others in the field are doing to increase their competencies, and grasp the need for demand management in social services.
Through open discussion and case examples, the presenter will provide an interactive format that draws out and strengthens attendees’ identity and capacities as leaders. Participants will leave this workshop with concrete tools and practical strategies to implement in their positions as administrators, to aid in the transition from clinician to program facilitator, and to position themselves for promotion into administrative and supervisory roles.
