Topic:
Collective Tragedy and Grief in the Context of Racism: Our Experiences and Our Steps Forward.

We still struggle to absorb the magnitude of the tragedy in Charleston, the racially determined murder and loss of nine individuals in a house of worship- the relentless loss of lives once again, racist violence and violation once again- and the assault on a congregation and house of worship, long-time symbols of resistance and cultural continuity, framed in history this young man alone could not have known. Grief and discouragement are not far for many. Perhaps as social workers we can take solace by conscientiously recommitting ourselves with determination to social justice work as a foundation of our practice, uniquely infused within our various roles, at all of our settings, among wide populations and issues, and well beyond our work contexts, in our community lives.

The meeting will focus on: Collective Tragedy and Grief in the Context of Racism: Our Experiences and Our Steps Forward. Please join the discussion among colleagues in a community of support, to acknowledge our own experiences and to consider our individual and collective steps and actions moving ahead
