Since Orlando, in the Shadow of Recent Disasters
It will be the first time after a month to discuss the expansive reach of the tragedy in Orlando, a hate crime of daunting proportions, targeting the LGBTQ and Latinx communities, at a haven of safety, trust, and comfort. With losses so great, it reverberates deeply for many, and on many levels. Along with our own experiences, discussion can include the significant implications, what we are learning from clients, our related social and racial justice work, and efforts and ideas for moving forward with action and purpose.
Since Orlando, in the last weeks and days, other disasters have unfolded with relentless persistence. Istanbul, Dhaka, Baghdad, and Medina have been sites of stunning loss, devastation, intentionality.
And in East New York, and Baton Rouge, again, Black men killed by police- the anguished son of one man expressing dimensions of loss nearly too much for him and for us to bear. As with each tragedy, the imprint on those surviving will endure. Each adds to the chain of previous violence, violation, inequity.
Please join the meeting as we create a conversation and offer support to one another as colleagues, and as a community of peers, after these collective traumas and losses, and their references across the historical landscape.
Thank you for please sending an RSVP to me at email@example.com.
