This workshop, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in Clinical Social Work Practice, is an introduction to this efficacious model, covering the history, theory and research which has propelled CBT to the forefront of preferred consumer therapies for anxiety and depression. CBT is one of the few forms of psychotherapy that has been scientifically tested and found to be effective for clients with many different disorders by focusing on the present and problem-solving oriented techniques. To be effective however, CBT requires therapist understanding of client capacity, goals, and how to implement and demonstrate interventions and skills responsive to client problems.

 

Through lecture, PowerPoint, and interactive exercises, participants will learn how to conduct a behavioral assessment and some important CBT skills which can be integrated with current approaches or form the basis for further study of Cognitive Behavior Therapy. 

 

Susan Dowd Stone, LCSW is an award winning therapist, advocate, author and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Silver School of Social Work, New York University where she presents on the cognitive therapies in the Masters and Post Masters programs and for the Center of Global and Lifelong Learning. She has written extensively on the model and utilizes it in her private practice in Englewood Cliffs NJ.
