Suicide remains one of the biggest taboos in our society. It is certainly one of the most daunting psychological realities of the mental health profession. Yet, it is universal. A suicidal frame of mind can visit one’s life during any stage and crisis. In addition, a suicide attempt can have a lasting impact on an entire family. This workshop aims to demystify the prevailing fear and discomfort around this subject. We will explore ways to work through the impasse that clinicians often experience when encountering clients on the suicide continuum. We will focus on trauma informed suicide assessment, how to identify suicidal ideation, explore how suicide manifests in cross-cultural contexts, and crisis interventions in diverse communities and settings. A goal of this workshop is to move from dealing with suicide in isolation to a more supportive mental health community.

Shreya Mandal, JD, LCSW is a Licensed Psychotherapist in New York City. She has over twenty years of combined clinical and forensic experience in the criminal justice system.
