Implications for Social Work Practice."

Substance related disorders can mask, mimic, or exacerbate symptoms in every diagnostic category listed in the DSM IV. Suggested topics:

  • Cultural influences and biases with dual diagnosis or "MICA"
  • Gender issues
  • Managed care influences
  • Ethical issues
  • Evolving models of treatment
  • Integrated models
  • Residential treatment
  • Outpatient treatment
  • In-home treatment/case management
  • Criminal justice system issues
  • Community integration/deinstitutionalization
  • Mandated vs. self referrals
  • Self-care issues for clinicians
