Task Force of Social Workers of African Descent Hosts Event in Celebration of Black History Month

 About 40 social workers gathered at the Chapter office on the evening of February 21st for the Second Annual Celebration of Black History Month, entitled Effecting Positive Change in the Black Community, hosted by the NASW-NYC Task Force of Social Workers of African Descent. Special guest speaker, Reverend Alfonso Wyatt spoke passionately about the strengths and the needs of the Black community, and engaged participants in a discussion about how to move forward in these times. Ms. Velma Banks, founder of The World Community of Social Workers, was present to share a tribute to Whitney M. Young, Jr. – a seminal figure in U.S. history, and a social work leader and pioneer.
