The Social Work in Government (SWG) Committee was formed to address and promote the variety of roles and responsibilities social workers play in the public sector. The membership reflects those presently working in government, have interest in working in government or just want to know more.
Our goal is to share information, resources and strategies while developing relationships that support and encourage one another.
The Committee will promote, strengthen, and support the role of social work professionals in all phases and levels of government agency operations, by maintaining a relevant voice as advocate using our expertise, social work skills and practices, in the creation and maintenance of policies and programs impacting client focused social services.
The Committee is planning to host a conference on this topic and conduct a workshop on grant writing. We will also address current policies and issues as they arise such as emergency preparedness and obtaining and managing funding resources. SWG is open to cross collaboration with other disciplines for skills building and sharing. In addition to becoming an active voice in the field we are also committed to learning to care for ourselves and invest in our own wellbeing in a meaningful way.
