NYC NASW PACE Steering Committee November 2001 Edorsements
Tuesday, November 6 is Election Day in NYC. The chapter's political action arm, NYC-PACE, reminds everyone to vote and that numerous endorsements have been made. Please see below for the complete list.
This election period has been disrupted and delayed unlike no other we have known including attacks on our democratic system. We are writing to you now to urge you to once again go to the polls on Election Day, November 6th, as one more step in support of our democratic values. We want to inform you of both who has won nomination for office and whom we have endorsed. We encourage you to vote for the PACE endorsees.
Mark Green has defeated Fernando Ferrer for the Democratic Party nomination for Mayor. Our decision to endorse Mr. Green in the Primary over Mr. Ferrer was not an easy one, but we strongly recommend him as the better choice than his Republican opponent, Michael Bloomberg. We agreed that our longstanding relationship with Mark Green as Public Advocate and as the endorsed candidate for Mayor will benefit both the social work profession and our clients.
Betsy Gotbaum has our endorsement and she has won the Democratic nomination for Public Advocate. As she has no Republican opponent in November, she has virtually won the election.
Early on we endorsed William Thompson for the office of Comptroller. He has won the Democratic Primary and without a Republican opponent he has also virtually won the election.
NYC-PACE does not have the person power to interview and screen every candidate for these city elections, but we have endorsed the following. We urge you to vote for these candidates.
