Signing an office lease is a common need for any professional. It is also the most costly contract many professionals will ever sign, after the purchase of their primary residence. Unfortunately, office leases are both heavily weighted against the renter and typically interpreted by the courts without any consideration of fairness. Office leases often require personal guarantees, contain lengthy and highly complex language (often exceeding 50 pages), and come with substantial hidden costs. Many business owners and entrepreneurs are driven to bankruptcy only because they cannot fulfill their commercial lease.

By understanding ahead of time what the legal and financial risks, and true costs associated with leasing office space are, you will be able to plan your needs and budget far more effectively.

Accomplished small business attorney Bradley R. Bailyn, Esq, will teach attendees the major risks to watch out for, and strategies for keeping their options open and eliminating many sneaky sources of major financial risk without losing the deal entirely. This is information most professionals lack until it is too late.

With this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of pre-planning and due diligence when selecting a location and landlord
  • Know legal concepts and terms relevant to commercial leases
  • Name many of the online and in-person resources available during the leasing process
  • Understand tips for negotiating and signing a commercial lease
