This two-hour self-study webinar offers an introduction to the theory, application, interventions, and uniqueness of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). While IPT has been an evidence-based approach for over a decade, it appears to be underutilized by clinicians who are increasingly in need of effective strategies that do not pathologize the anguish of marginalized populations.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy is well-aligned with social work values in that it truly starts “where the client is” interpreting their experiences through the four target areas of grief and loss, interpersonal deficits, interpersonal disputes, and role transitions. Participants will also be given an overview of the theoretical basis of IPT (psychodynamic, attachment theory, communications theory and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)) which underscores the power of this short-term intervention.

Participants will learn about interventions unique to IPT and how the approach is organized session by session. Through PowerPoint presentation, research studies, case examples and current usage, participants will be able to determine if this effective approach would support their current practice.

At the end of the webinar, participants must take a 10-minute post-test and pass the test by 80% in order to receive their Certificate of Completion.
