The Call to Action: A Virtual Advocacy Campaign that NASW-NYC held in partnership with NASW-NJ and NASW-DE in July 2020, inspired the chapter to create further opportunities for legislative advocacy for our members and ALL NYC social workers. In light of recent news and need for action this election year, it is imperative that we all continue this work towards a more equitable New York City. 

We invite you to join the NASW-NYC CARES initiative for a two-part series dedicated to the discussion and advocacy of the Racial Equity Bill S8209 and A10319.

A Conversation on the Racial Equity Bill

Assembly Member and Majority Leader Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes and NYS Senator Tim Kennedy will lead a discussion on their bill to create a statewide office of racial equity and social justice (S8209 Kennedy /A10319 Peoples-Stokes).

Part Two:

Advocacy: The Cornerstone of Social Work

Take an exciting journey down the halls of the state capitol.  Learn about the inside machinations of how an idea becomes a bill, a bill becomes a movement, and ultimately, a law. And how the ever shifting legislative and electoral landscape impacts your practice, the profession and those whom we serve.

Participants will have the opportunity to understand the intersection between policy and practice, how to use their inherent social work skill set to effectively engage their policy makers and drive sound social welfare policies.

Please note this part of the series offers ONE CE Contact Hour.

Attendees must attend BOTH parts of the series to be eligible to receive their free CE credit/certificate.
