The September meeting of the Disaster Trauma Committee is an anniversary meeting of 9/11, as so many of us were deeply and sadly involved in responding to surviving family members and others closely affected from the first days of that tragedy. For this year we are focusing on the collective experience of anniversaries for a community, along with collective mourning and collective memorializing, issues of loss, and the transgenerational transmission of historical trauma and loss. We'll recognize many other anniversaries from this time of year, from Hiroshima and Nagasaki to Katrina and Rita- each with current reverberations.

At the same time, each meeting of the Disaster Trauma Committee begins with discussion of the most recent disasters/collective traumas and losses occurring since our last meeting, and of course we will start the meeting by discussing the Charlottesville, Va white supremacist rally and its implications, contextualized, and Hurricane Harvey, also in its immediate and broader context.

We will be continuing discussion on taking action, responding to hate crimes, enhancing collaboration among the chapter committees, creating additional conversations among social workers, and engaging in public education through narratives and stories
