The NASW-NYC Licensing Test Prep Workshop is a one-day course that provides information on the format and structure of the LMSW or LCSW examination, thereby reducing stress associated with the testing conditions.


The workshop will teach successful test-taking strategies for correctly answering examination questions. A manual and other materials will be provided at the workshop (included in the fee). NASW-NYC recommends that attendees bring pens and highlighters to the workshop.

*Registrants will only receive the exam guide that matches their test prep workshop.

Registrants who miss their test prep workshop will not be able to obtain the exam guide and any other materials offered through the course.

Dawn Hall Apgar, PhD, LSW, ACSW has helped thousands of social workers across the country prepare for the examinations associated with all levels of licensure. In recent years, she has consulted with numerous NASW Chapters to assist them with establishing their own licensure test preparation programs, including training the instructors.


Dr. Apgar has done research on licensure funded by the American Foundation for Research and Consumer Education in Social Work Regulation and is currently chairperson of her state’s social work licensing board. She is a past President of the New Jersey Chapter of NASW and has been on its National Board of Directors. In 2014, the Chapter presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Apgar has taught in both undergraduate and graduate social work programs and has extensive direct practice, policy, and management experience in the social work field.






NASW-NYC is happy to fulfill any special accommodations requests submitted in writing via e-mail  to at least two weeks prior to the test prep date. Requests received after the deadline may not be able to be processed or fulfilled in time for the event.


Please note that the temperature of the test prep room can vary. While we try our best to maintain a comfortable temperature, please come prepared with appropriate clothing.


The kitchen is not available to workshops participants unless a special accommodation request is submitted ahead of time; a water fountain is available. Participants are welcome to eat in the workshop room but are asked to clean up after themselves before leaving the workshop.




You may register online, through mail/fax (click here to print out a registration form to mail or fax it in), or in-person onsite (if space is available).

Onsite registrations are available for all test preps unless it is closed out. Please note there is limited space and registrations are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Accepted forms of payment: credit card, check, money order, and cash (in-person only). Onsite registrants paying in cash must bring exact change.



There are no phone registrations at this time.




All refund requests must be submitted by e-mail to no later than five days prior to the test prep date. If a refund is requested later than five days prior to the test prep date, NASW-NYC has the right to refuse the request.


        - All refunds are subject to a $20.00 administrative processing fee

        - Refund requests typically take 1-2 weeks processing time

        - Refunds ONLY. Credit cannot be issued toward a future program date or substituted for another test prep.


If a test prep is cancelled, registrants will be informed ahead of time and refunded in full.
