The first meeting in the New Year will be packed with lots of information. In addition to the monthly presentation, we are happy to announce that naloxone (overdose prevention) training will be offered several times this year and that we hope to bring more training opportunities to you.
Be sure to mark your calendars for the 50th Annual Addiction Institute. Yes, 50 years of cutting-edge, science-based interventions and clinical practice focused on improving the well-being of individuals and families that we serve. Join us at Fordham University - Lincoln Center Campus on June 13, 2018. Submit a workshop proposal for the 50th Annual Addiction Institute with the following link: http://www.naswnyc.org/?217
Also, we would like to bring to your attention the Chapter's Call to Action. Assembly Member Luis Sepulveda has introduced the Racial Equity Bill (AB 5851) that proposes the addition of a Racial Equity Impact Assessment (REIA) Committee to evaluate the potential harm and ensure fiscal and environmental protections in the face of limited resources. This assessment can be a vital tool for preventing institutional racism and for identifying new options to remedy long-standing inequities.
We call upon you to contact your Assembly Member to support establishing this Legislative Committee. To find your Assemblymember log onto http://nyassembly.gov/mem/search/. When you do remember to introduce yourself as a constituent, reference bill AB.5851, and its intent. Finally, don't forget to ask your member to join as a co-sponsor of the legislation immediately!
Please watch your emails for more information about the work that your Chapter is doing and how you can get involved!
As always, we look forward to seeing everyone at the meetings. On January 10, 2018, we will have a special guest speaker. More information to be sent shortly. Registration and RSVPs are not required. 2.0 CASAC hours will be awarded to all attendees. SW CEs and LMHC hours are not given.
Wishing You all the Peace and Happiness the Holiday Season Brings,
Sharon and Susan, Addictions Committee Co-Chairs.
