The Internal Family Systems (IFS) model is one today’s most exciting approaches to psychotherapy and trauma treatment. This workshop will present basic concepts of the IFS model, which holds a central belief that everyone has an essential “Self” along with “parts” that arise from their life experiences.

IFS offers clinicians of all orientations an unique, non-pathologizing perspective that can integrate with varied ways of understanding and treating clients. IFS naturally enhances clients’ awareness of present-day distress/symptoms and the early life experiences that have prompted parts to develop in their particular ways.

The workshop will clarify aspects of Self and the categories of parts, along with interventions for engaging entrenched parts that can create “resistance” and “stuckness” in therapy. Clinical examples will illustrate these concepts, and a detailed handout will be provided.
