This workshop will serve as an introduction to Gestalt therapy as a holistic person-centered approach that focuses on each client’s unique way of experiencing the world. This training session will include discussion of the basic concepts of Gestalt therapy, and how they can be applied to working with clients in any social work setting. Interactive exercises will take place in which participants will have an opportunity to either experience or witness the way in which a Gestalt therapy approach enhances clients’ awareness of how they live in the world on a moment-to-moment basis. Case examples will be discussed to demonstrate Gestalt therapy principles. Social justice issues and client diversity will be examined through a Gestalt therapy lens.
