This basic overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy will cover its theory, its bio psycho social strategies and the clinical presentations which may most benefit from the application of this evidenced based cognitive behavioral approach.

Through lecture, Powerpoint, video and interactive segments, participants will learn about Linehan’s Biosocial Theory, its relationship to neurobiology and trauma, and how the result of these forces can produce true deficits in the emotion regulation system.

The morning segment of the program will cover the theory, philosophy and strategies of DBT including the review of skills from all four DBT modules. The afternoon segment will include a video featuring Linehan demonstrating one of her skills and provide an interactive opportunity for participants to practice the skills and create “homework” for case study clients.

Susan Dowd Stone, LCSW, is an award winning therapist, advocate, author and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Silver School of Social Work, New York University where she presents on the cognitive therapies in the Masters and Post Masters programs and for the Center of Global and Lifelong Learning.
