This workshop will provide an introduction on how to manage staff performance in social service agencies, with an emphasis on client-serving staff. It will include a framework for providing effective feedback for staff development, and time to practice applying skills through role plays and case studies.
Strategies for addressing performance problems will also be explored. An overview of burnout and vicarious trauma as they relate to performance management will also be addressed. The course will incorporate consideration on how the identities of supervisors and supervisees can impact both feedback and performance assessment.
With this workshop, participants will learn how to:
- Define the situation/behavior/impact model of feedback
- Increase their skills in providing feedback
- Increase their skills addressing performance problems

Kate Barrow, LCSW is a non-profit leader with over a decade of experience in social services. She specializes in trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approaches to management and systems change work. She helps individuals and organizations around New York City strengthen their management
practices, reduce burnout, prevent vicarious trauma, and integrate social justice values more fully into their work.
Ms. Barrow has been facilitating trainings for social workers since 2009, and has directed clinical programs in criminal justice, social service, and foster care settings since 2005. Her work is focused on building individual and collective liberation.

All refund requests must be submitted by e-mail to workshops.naswnyc@socialworkers.org. Valid requests must be received no later than five days prior to course date. NASW-NYC reserves the right to refuse any refunds requested later than five days prior to the course date.
All refunds are subject to a $20.00 administrative processing fee.
Refund requests typically require 1-2 weeks processing time.
Refunds ONLY. Credit cannot be issued toward a future program date or substituted for another workshop.
