Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based cognitive behavioral trauma treatment protocol that has been demonstrated to reduce symptoms of PTSD that have developed after experiencing traumatic events such as family trauma, combat, assault, and other natural disasters. Trauma changes the way a client thinks of themselves and the world. Trauma-thinking and reactions can keep clients stuck in a trauma state (PTSD) and they are unable to engage constructively with life.

CPT is a protocol that can be conducted over 12 sessions (can vary depending on the case) and guides patients to learn how to challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to trauma. The CPT Protocol teaches clients how to manage distressing thoughts, emotions, and memories. Clients will learn cognitive skills, grounding and processing skills to manage and work through these distressing symptoms. As a result, the client develops a new conceptualization of the traumatic event so that it reduces the recurrent negative effects on their current life.

With this workshop, participants will learn:

  • The diagnostic treatment area of PTSD and trauma-related disorders
  • The conceptual framework of CPT and assess the suitability of the CPT model for their clients
  • The CPT treatment guidelines, stages, and skills of CPT trauma recovery
  • Skills in treating trauma through CPT cognitive, emotional, grounding and narrative strategies
  • How to individualize the CPT trauma recovery approach to the individual needs for each client
