Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a third-wave cognitive behavioral evidence-based approach offering an innovative perspective on treating clients with a range of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, and trauma.

This workshop will explore a variety of ACT techniques for helping clients who are struggling to make behavior changes due to the presence of painful thoughts, feelings and memories.  In ACT, psychological flexibility is introduced to clients through a range of techniques including mindfulness, acceptance, and cognitive defusion. The primary aim in the ACT therapeutic approach is presenting a framework to clients of how to live a life of purpose demonstrated through value driven behaviors.

The ACT approach effectively uses both metaphors and experiential exercises to activate meaningful change in clients’ lives.

With this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Provide an overview of CBT Approaches and ACT as a Third Wave Intervention
  • Explain the Conceptualization of the ACT (Acceptance and Commitment) Therapy Model and the underpinnings of the therapeutic techniques
  • Know a variety of ACT techniques utilizing metaphor, experiential, and role-play strategies

  • Formulate cases with an ACT approach
