This workshop will focus on estate planning and administration of estates. In exploring estate planning, wills, trusts, beneficiary designations, and jointly-owned property will be discussed.

The emphasis will be on cost-effective solutions for clients, including provisions for elderly or disabled family members, and for children. Also, we will look at estate taxes and strategies to assist clients in avoiding family disputes.

The discussion of estate administration will look at what happens when a client has a will versus what happens when someone passes without a will, and the workshop will compare probate and administration under New York law, as well as trust administration.

With this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand wills and trusts, and how they are used
  • Understand beneficiary designations and jointly-owned property, and how they can be used to create an effective estate plan in appropriate situations at little or no cost
  • Understand what to expect when someone dies, and when court proceedings will be needed and how they work

NASW Member: $55 | Non-Member: $115
