Loss is an issue that is prevalent in the lives of everyone. The impact can be devastating if not processed in an emotionally healthy way. When loss does occur, mental health workers must be prepared to assist clients manage the loss, resume normalcy and grow from that loss.

This workshop will focus on creating meaning from loss thus helping clients rebuild their lives in a more beautiful and meaningful way as a result of loss. Participants will be able to evaluate their ability to create meaning with their clients and learn how to help their clients understand and build from their experiences of loss; experiences not limited to death but could include a loss of job, a divorce, and loss of a relationship, to name a few.

With this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Articulate and define creating meaning and how it relates to loss
  • Understand the various avenues in which meaning is created for sustained mental health

  • Create their own meaning by participating in activities that will teach them how to assist their clients in creating meaning as a part of their healing process
