Please join the next meeting of the Disaster Trauma Committee, Friday, August 14, 9 to 11 am on zoom. We will continue our conversation on social work during the pandemics of COVID-19 and systemic racism. As always, we will begin with a moment of silence to recognize those we have lost, we’ll identify disaster anniversaries at this time of year, and we’ll frame the discussion in the immediate context of collective trauma and collective loss, as we recognize the ever-continuing importance of sharing support with one another, and identifying advocacy efforts, social justice work, and anti-racism initiatives. Thank you for please sending an RSVP to mgmiller96@aol.com.
Following the August meeting we will next meet on Friday, September 18, 9 to 11 am on zoom. As this will be the annual 9/11 Anniversary Reflection and Remembrance Meeting, we’ll have a chance to consider with nuance our social work in the city then in relation to the present realities. As of September, meetings will be held monthly, on the third Friday morning of each month. A new zoom invitation will be sent as it gets closer to September.
I also want to mention the research study of a colleague, Karen Seeley, PhD, LCSW, looking at the experience of clinical work during COVID-19. Please contact me to receive the study description as you consider your participation in this research.
Hope to see you on the 14th, and sending best-
Madelyn Miller, PhD, LCSW, chair, Disaster Trauma Committee, NYC-NASW
