The New York City Commission on Human Rights (NYCCCHR) is charged with the enforcement of the Human Rights Law, Title 8 of the Administrative Code of the City of New York, and with educating the public and encouraging positive community relations.

In partnership with NYCCCHR, this free, two-hour webinar educates social work professionals on the legal protections and obligations under the NYC Human Rights Law. This presentation will provide an overview of the New York City Human Rights law along with the five areas covered under the law: employment, housing, public accommodations, discriminatory harassment and bias-profiling by law enforcement; as well as provide social work practitioners with the skills and resources to recognize and report instances of discrimination and harassment, including resources to assist clients through instances as such.

To request an assistive listening device, interpretation, or another accommodation, please email Christelle N. Onwu, MSW at conwu@cchr.nyc.gov by February 25th, 2021.

With this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Have a general understanding of protections afforded under the NYC Human Rights Law to better assist clients or persons seeking services.
  • Recognize discrimination, harassment, and bias when they occur in the areas covered by the law.
  • Recognize the Commission as a resource available to clients or persons that have encountered discrimination, harassment, and/or bias.
  • Guide clients and persons seeking services about the Commission’s complaint process and different ways to contact the Commission when discrimination in the areas of jurisdiction occur.
