The ability to emotionally regulate is a central inner psychology ability for all clinical populations and age groups. Organically formulated for clients with BPD, Dialectical Behavior Therapy is now widely applied to wide ranging presenting concerns such as mood disorders, anxiety, adolescence and multi-problem families.

This training on DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), an evidence-based coping skills treatment approach, will provide a conceptual overview of the approach and detailed instruction on the four core skills of DBT: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Skills Training.

Participants will learn how to identify patterns of emotional dysregulation and ways to develop a DBT plan to guide the client to gain better emotional control. The workshop will be didactic, experiential with direct application to personal and clinical practice.

With this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify how clients emotionally regulate and pinpoint skill deficits
  • Learn how to present the DBT framework to clients and how to engage clients in the approach
  • Name the 4 Core Skills (mindfulness, distress toleration, emotional regulation, interpersonal skills) in DBT and its application
