With this workshop, participants will gain an increased understanding on Alzheimer’s and other dementias - assessments and interventions. The presentation will review the different stages of dementia, discuss the concept of delirium vs. dementia, and have social workers examine their own practice implications when working with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias in community, hospital, long-term care settings, palliative care and hospice settings. The presentation will also review the impact of polypharmacy on health outcomes in aging patients, provide strategies to reinforce adherence, provide examples of medications that should be deprescribed, and give tools that will assist with polypharmacy.

 

Personal and professional challenges, current findings and future research, and caring for patients with Alzheimer’s and other dementias including home safety tips, behavior techniques, positive psychology, memory aids, reminiscence techniques, and communications enhancement techniques will be discussed.

 

 

With this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the different stages of dementia
  • Identify assessments and interventions for Alzheimer’s and dementias
  • Identify strategies for handling exercise, socializing and other activities
  • Identify strategies of dealing with behavioral issues using enhancement techniques, positive psychology, reminiscence technique and safety guidelines

Virginia Lee, LCSW has been a social worker for the past 25 years. She worked at NYC HHC where she held Social Worker Supervisor III. Virginia Lee is currently with Essen Health Behavior Team in New York. Virginia Lee is the creator of Aging Life Care Professional and Care Management LLC.

 

Virginia sat on Advisory Member of Late Life Issues Committee and was a Co-Chair of the Aging Committee with CTNASW. Virginia has publications with CTNASW entitled Impact of Loneliness in the US and Globally, Aging Brain, and what’s Palliative Care?

 

Virginia has been awarded the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

NASW-NYC Certificates Policy

 

As per New York State Continuing Education guidelines, attendees must arrive on time and attend the ENTIRE workshop to receive their Continuing Education Contact Hours. Any attendees who arrive late or leaves early to a workshop will not receive their certificate, is not allowed admittance into the workshop and is also not eligible for a refund in any way. 

 

Please ensure that your registration information is accurate as this may impact your continuing education certificates.  NASW-NYC is not responsible for the accuracy of your registration information. To receive your certificate of completion, you must be present for the entire webinar and complete an evaluation.

 

 

NASW-NYC Refund Policy

 

All refund requests must be submitted by e-mail to accounting.naswnyc@socialworkers.org. Refund e-mails must include the subject line "Refund Request" as well as the attendee's name, workshop date and title in the body of the e-mail. Valid requests must be received no later than three business days prior to course date. NASW-NYC reserves the right to refuse any refunds requested later than three days prior to the course date.

  • All refunds are subject to a 30% administrative processing fee.
  • Refund requests typically require 1-2 weeks processing time.
  • Refunds ONLY; credit cannot be issued toward a future program date or substituted for another workshop.

 

If the workshop is cancelled, you will be informed ahead of time and fully refunded.
