In partnership with:

The Bystander Intervention training is built on the idea that we all play a role in creating safe public spaces for each other when we see our neighbors and community members facing bias, discrimination, or harassment. The training provides participants with the tools and strategies to safely respond when they witness bias incidents and discrimination. Participants learn verbal and behavioral de-escalation strategies to non-violently intervene to disrupt hate-violence or hate speech. The training explores the meaning of safety, of being an effective ally, and how identity plays a role in the ways we choose to intervene.

With this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Be more aware of their surroundings
  • Identify strategies during the moment of intervention: direct, delegate, distract, document (adapted for Hollaback) and check-in
  • Identify de-escalation tools
