Given the current state of global and national turmoil, there is a strong need for effective crisis intervention and management skills within the mental health arena. This past few years has been atypical and the global health crisis has resulted in major changes on the micro, mezzo, and macro level of society.
This course will provide definition and data on crises and crisis intervention, its beginnings and evolution into an evidence-informed practice. Participants will walk away knowing what crisis
intervention is and what it looks like in different settings and systems. The impact of crises on the individual and larger groups will be explored in terms of post traumatic stress and paradigm shifts and how crisis intervention can be applied to mitigate stress and promote post traumatic growth.
The webinar will focus on what crisis intervention looks like within the mental health sector and identify the ethical considerations and implications of different crisis intervention strategies. A discussion aimed at developing culturally competent and trauma informed crisis intervention will also be integral of this training.
With this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Understand the trilogy definition of crisis.
- Identify and explain ABC model of crisis intervention.
- Identify evidence-informed crisis intervention strategies within different environments and with different populations.
- Develop a foundational understanding of at least 3 different crisis intervention frameworks.

Stella Koltunov, LCSW currently serves as a Staff Clinician, Clinical Supervisor, and Intern Program Director at New York Behavioral Health. She received her MSW from NYU’s Silver School of Social Work and has been providing psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups in the community using evidence-based and trauma-informed techniques.
Stella has extensive experience working with those impacted by crisis and trauma and utilizes a strengths-based approach to de-escalate the immediate state of crisis and allow her clients to move through the crisis to facilitate relief and growth.
Douglas Tiburcio, LMSW
is the Clinical Coordinator at Brooklyn Justice Initiative. He received hi
s MSW from NYU’s Silver School of Social Work in 2011 and interned for the American Cancer Society as a patient navigator and gained experience in forensic social work as an intern at the Bergen County Jail. He has practiced psychotherapy in the community, and provided supervision, program evaluation, quality assurance and end of life care as Director of Social Services for the Maywood Center for Health and Rehabilitation. Douglas has experience with crisis intervention in numerous settings and considers it an invaluable skill set.

NASW-NYC Certificates Policy
As per New York State Continuing Education guidelines, attendees must arrive on time and attend the ENTIRE workshop to receive their Continuing Education Contact Hours. Any attendees who arrive late or leaves early to
a workshop will not receive their certificate, is not allowed admittance into the workshop and is also not eligible for a refund in any way.
Please ensure that your registration and evaluation information is accurate as this may impact your continuing education certificates as your certificates will reflect the information you provided.
NASW-NYC is not responsible for the accuracy of your registration information. To receive your certificate of completion, you must be present for the entire webinar and complete an evaluation.
NASW-NYC Refund Policy
All refund requests must be submitted in writing to accounting.naswnyc@socialworkers.org no later than four business days prior to the workshop date. Refund e-mails must include the subject line "Refund Request" as well as the attendee's name, workshop date and title in the body of the e-mail. If a refund is requested later than four business days prior to the workshop date, NASW-NYC has the right to refuse the request.
- All refunds are subject to a fee of 25% for administrative processing fees
- Refund requests typically take 1-2 weeks processing time
- Refunds ONLY. Credit cannot be issued toward a future program date or substituted for another workshop.
If the workshop is cancelled, you will be informed ahead of time and fully refunded.
