This workshop is designed to address the youth mental health crisis through a Problem-Driven Iterative Adaptation (PDIA) framework and empower social workers with the local nomination and articulation of the youth mental health crisis. Participants will examine policy gaps within school mental health practice.
Using a macro lens and a PDIA framework, we will deconstruct the problem using a problem analysis (with a focus on the current school mental health model in NYC). This workshop will review local, state, and national public policies influencing and contributing to the youth mental health crisis.
This workshop also makes the connection between policy and clinical practice by reviewing gaps and deficiencies on a policy level impacting communities and youth of color on a micro level. The intersectionality of institutional racism and youth mental health will be addressed.
With this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Learn how to properly deconstruct a problem in the youth mental health crisis using a PDIA framework.
- Adopt new ways of thinking, a new paradigm and new methodologies in school mental health practice.
- Engage in thought provoking team exercises and participate in local articulation and nomination of the youth mental health crisis
