The meeting will consider recent collective traumas of relentless violation, and the impact on us in the context of our work. From the tragedies in Baltimore and in so many other cities contextualized by longstanding inequities and structural racism, to the realities of girls and young women returning from Boko Haram captivity, along with unaccompanied immigrant children, and those who are trafficked, to the devastation in Nepal- distinctly unique disasters- we will consider our own experiences of absorbing the magnitude of such loss and despair, and efforts to enhance resourcefulness and engagement in our work and for ourselves. And we’ll acknowledge the perseverance, resilience, and sense of agency also expressed across these communities.
Please join the meeting, and looking forward to seeing you there.
Madelyn Miller, PhD, LCSW, chair, Disaster Trauma Committee, NYC-NASW
