EMDR is a trauma therapy heralded as an effective way to process and resolve traumatic experience. This workshop will explain what EMDR is from a theoretical and technical standpoint, describe the core principles of EMDR, and discuss how EMDR might be incorporated into your practice, with specific focus on the kind of symptoms and trauma with which you might use EMDR. Case material will be presented to illustrate these points.
Further, a video of an EMDR session will be shown and then the class will engage in some experiential exercises using methods and techniques specific to EMDR, including "bilaterial stimulation" to evoke resourced states. Attendees will leave with resourcing skills you can share with your clients.
Sean Frankino is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Manhattan, NY where he works with adult individuals and couples. He is a Consultant in EMDR and Faculty member in training for the Parnell Institute. His general clinical orientation is relational which privileges the healing nature of the therapeutic relationship. As a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and Assistant at SE trainings he also integrates awareness of the body and sensations into his EMDR practice. Further, he is a trained Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT) and incorporates EMDR and SE into his couples work. He works with performance enhancement, addictions, trauma resulting from experiences of being different, car accidents, violent crimes, physical, emotional and sexual abuse, persistent negative self-states, relationship difficulties, grief and loss, and coping with illness and pain.
