This course will explore the NASW Code of Ethics, transference and counter-transference with an eye on how they intersect with personal and professional social work practice. After a presentation of the subject matter, vignettes will be used to highlight interventions, strategies and conflicts in working with clients and within institutional structures.
At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Learn the 6 Ethical Principles that make up the NASW Code of Ethics
- Explore components of transference and counter-transference
- Identify legal, institutional and personal values and experiences that affect daily professional practice
- Develop a set of strategies to enhance clinical and administrative practice
Kathy Ann Brodsky, LCSW
Kathy Ann Brodsky, LCSW is a New York and New Jersey licensed social worker, adoptive mom and advocate for ethical adoption practice. She has prepared thousands of adoption homestudies, counseled adoptive parents and parents-to-be, and has trained professionals to work with adoptive families. She was Director of the Ametz Adoption Program from March 1992 to March 2015. She is Head Writer for Adoption.NET, member of the Adoption Advisory Board of Path2Parenthood and has a private practice in New York City. She was named an “Angel in Adoption” by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption in 2001.
Dina J. Rosenfeld, DSW
Dr. Dina J. Rosenfeld is an Associate Clinical Professor. She has been working at New York University Silver School of Social Work since 1980. Presently, she teaches both in the undergraduate and MSW programs. She also coordinates the minors and the Undergraduate Service Learning programs. Dr. Rosenfeld was the director of the undergraduate social work program from 1995 to 2014, and the assistant dean of undergraduate programs from 2007 to 2014. She has helped establish the Spirituality and Social Work Post-Master's Certificate Program. She has spearheaded initiatives creating the dual major in social work and global public health and minors in interdisciplinary poverty studies and multi-faith and spiritual leadership. For the last 26 years she has served as an adoption consultant and community educator on adoption.

Refunds are available if requested in writing five business days before the workshop, minus a $20 administrative fee.
