The literature on evidence-based practice (EBP) has grown exponentially in the last two decades influencing research, policy, practice, and pedagogy. However, little research has examined how social workers actually integrate evidence-based knowledge and skills into practice. This workshop presents a model and diagnostic tool to proactively address potential barriers and build on institutional and individual strengths to implement an evidence-based practice. The model is based on findings from a qualitative evaluation of the implementation of the evidence-based Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) protocol into real world social work agencies in many different fields of practice.
In this workshop, participants will draw from their own experiences to discuss what they have observed to be barriers and facilitators as they, their peers, and their supervisees have learned and implemented evidence-based practices. They will be introduced to a preventative and diagnostic EBP implementation tool based on the above model and be given the opportunity to practice using it.
